Macron-Prabowo Meeting: Boosting Indonesia-France Relations

French President Emmanuel Macron recently visited Indonesia to strengthen the partnership between the two countries. This visit highlighted the significant and long-standing relationship between Indonesia and France, with Macron emphasizing that their friendship goes beyond mere symbolism. President Prabowo Subianto warmly welcomed Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, acknowledging the importance of enhancing cooperation in various areas including the economy, technology, security, and culture.

Over the past 75 years, Indonesia and France have maintained diplomatic relations, with notable advancements in the last decade. Macron commended Indonesia for its role in upholding regional stability in the Indo-Pacific region and noted the progress in bilateral defense cooperation, renewable energy, transportation, and energy transition initiatives. Cultural collaboration was also a focal point during Macron’s visit, culminating in the signing of a cultural agreement at the Borobudur Temple complex as a symbolic gesture of the growing friendship between the two nations.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Macron expressed optimism for continued joint efforts in the future. His two-day official visit to Indonesia symbolized the commitment of both countries to strengthening their partnership across various sectors, laying the foundation for further collaboration in the years to come.
