Surabaya (beritajatim.com) – Karim (34), a resident of Madura, stole his landlord’s motorcycle because he needed money for his wife’s medical expenses, Friday (24/08/2024).
The theft was discovered by the landlord’s relative who became suspicious when Karim was seen pushing the Honda Revo L 6796 XC motorcycle because it ran out of fuel.
Achmad Choirun Nasichin, the local RT chairman, recounted that the incident was discovered by the victim’s family as the perpetrator was seen taking the motorcycle out of the mosque. When questioned by the victim’s family, the perpetrator admitted that he was asked to service the motorcycle.
“The perpetrator was continuously questioned by the victim’s family. Eventually, he ran away and was shouted at by his family,” said Achmad Choirun on Wednesday (28/8/2024).
When the perpetrator ran away, the locals chased and caught him on Wonoayu street near the mosque. When asked by the residents, Karim claimed that he was asked to patch a tire by the victim.
However, the residents did not immediately believe him and requested to see the CCTV footage. When the residents were distracted, Karim fled again. The residents then chased and caught the perpetrator. Karim was then paraded by the residents and tied to a pole in the mosque’s courtyard.
It was there that the perpetrator was beaten by the residents until the officers from Rungkut Police Station arrived. “He was beaten by the residents and tied to the mosque’s pole. Then he was picked up by Rungkut Police Station,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Rungkut Police Station, AKP Agus Tri, confirmed the incident. Currently, the perpetrator is still undergoing intensive questioning at Rungkut Police Station. “Yes, he has been secured. We are still conducting the interrogation,” said Agus. [ang/suf]
