Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Defense and President-elect for 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, welcomed former British Prime Minister (1997-2007) and Executive Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute, Tony Blair, to the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta on Friday, April 19.
“How are you, Your Excellency? It’s a pleasure to meet you, thank you,” Prabowo greeted Tony.
During their meeting, Tony personally congratulated Prabowo on his recent victory in the 2024 presidential election.
“Congratulations, Mr. Prabowo. Fantastic,” said Tony.
The meeting provided an opportunity for Prabowo and Tony to discuss defense and other global issues extensively.
Shuhaela Haqim, the Country Director for the Tony Blair Institute Indonesia, noted that the discussions concluded that a key to achieving prosperity and improving the quality of life in Indonesia lies in a national transformation strategy that ensures security and stability.
“Additionally, various strategic efforts are needed such as eradicating extreme poverty through nutritious food provision, empowering local economies, digital transformation, and implementing financial inclusion. All these steps are transformative measures towards becoming a developed country,” explained Shuhaela.
At the end of their meeting, Tony presented Prabowo with a copy of his memoir, “A Journey,” which details Tony Blair’s political career.
The day before, on Thursday, April 18, Tony Blair and President Jokowi had met at the Presidential Palace to discuss energy investments and the acceleration of digital transformation.
