Israel’s Attack in Gaza Claims Lives of Hostages

REPUBLIC.CO.ID, GAZA STRIP — Israel’s attack on Gaza is like a double-edged sword. Instead of destroying Hamas, the assault also resulted in the deaths of Israeli hostages who were supposed to be rescued. Israeli authorities believe that more than a third of the remaining hostages in Gaza have been killed.

From various sources, including intelligence information, CCTV footage, and forensic analysis, it is reported that 43 out of 120 hostages have been killed. “They died in Gaza because of the cabinet, the Israeli government, and Prime Minister Netanyahu,” shouted protesters in front of the Israeli Ministry of Defense office on Monday.

The demonstration came following the latest information that four Israeli hostages were killed in Gaza. A family of hostages expressed anger towards the Netanyahu administration for neglecting the hostages. “They were alive and now they are dead in Gaza because of the Israeli government,” said the family as quoted from a video by MEE.

“They should have been able to return home safely, not in a coffin,” added the family. They had seen the hostages alive just a few weeks ago. “They should have been able to return to their families.”

Efforts to promote peace in Gaza have been ongoing. US President Joe Biden has proposed a new plan to stop the war. However, the fate of the proposal remains unclear.

Israel and Hamas are urged to swiftly agree to the agreement to prevent further casualties. Over 36,000 residents of Gaza have reportedly perished in Israeli attacks since October 2023.

Prime Minister Netanyahu previously stated that he would not stop bombarding Gaza until Hamas is defeated. “I am not ready to stop the war,” Netanyahu’s office quoted him as saying in a secret meeting with Knesset members, as reported by the Anadolu news agency on Monday.

Netanyahu argued that Biden’s depiction of the situation was only partial. According to him, the war will only stop when the hostages are returned. Only then will Israel be ready to engage in discussions.

“There are other details that are kept confidential. We can stop fighting for 42 days to facilitate the return of the hostages, but we will not give up on our goal of achieving complete victory,” he emphasized.
