President Prabowo Subianto has reiterated the government’s strong commitment to education in Indonesia during his State Budget 2026 Financial Note address at the House of Representatives’ plenary session. The budget for 2026, the largest in the nation’s history, will allocate Rp 757.8 trillion to education. Emphasizing the importance of high-quality education, Prabowo stated that it is crucial for producing globally competitive human resources and eradicating poverty. He highlighted the need to ensure effective use of education funds by focusing on improving teacher welfare and quality, vocational training, and aligning curricula with job market demands. The allocation breakdown includes funding for programs like Program Indonesia Pintar and Kartu Indonesia Pintar scholarships, upgrading school facilities, and salaries for teachers and lecturers. Additionally, efforts will be made to strengthen People’s Schools and Garuda Excellence Schools to provide quality education for underprivileged children and encourage scholarships for students at top universities. The government aims to award scholarships to 4,000 students through the LPDP in 2026, nurturing a generation prepared for global competition. Prabowo concluded his address by emphasizing the importance of advancing Indonesia’s capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
