President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia made an official visit to Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025, to strengthen cooperation in providing better services for Indonesian pilgrims during their Hajj and Umrah journeys. During the visit, President Prabowo met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah. The discussions centered on expressing gratitude for the Saudi government’s commitment to serving pilgrims from around the world, including those from Indonesia.
The meeting highlighted the collaborative efforts between the two countries to ensure the safety and comfort of Indonesian pilgrims during their religious activities. Both parties agreed to further enhance the quality of services for Indonesian pilgrims in upcoming Hajj seasons, reiterating their dedication to facilitating a seamless pilgrimage experience.
Strategic agreements were also made to deepen bilateral relations beyond the pilgrimage context. The Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, co-chaired by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, focused on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and technology. The bilateral trade between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia has been robust, amounting to around USD 31.5 billion over the past five years.
Additionally, agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed to boost private sector investment, with an estimated value of USD 27 billion. These investments are poised to generate job opportunities in Indonesia, especially in sectors like energy, industrial development, and environmentally sustainable technology.
The leaders also highlighted the importance of cooperation in the health sector to address the medical needs of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Discussions also revolved around the advancement of the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries, as well as the strengthening of health workforce capacity.
In the realm of international relations, President Prabowo and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reaffirmed their commitment to supporting peaceful conflict resolutions in the region. They reiterated their endorsement of a two-state solution for Palestine and emphasized the pivotal role of international humanitarian organizations in promoting peace and stability.
The visit underscored the deepening partnership between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia across various sectors, showcasing their joint endeavors to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims and boost cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
