Indonesia and France have enjoyed diplomatic relations for over 70 years since their establishment in 1947. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron received a warm welcome in Jakarta, emphasizing the bond of friendship and mutual respect between the two nations. The grand state reception took place at Merdeka Palace, with around 3,000 students from elementary to high school levels eagerly waving the flags of Indonesia and France. President Macron’s arrival at the palace, alongside First Lady Brigitte Macron, was celebrated with a motorcade from Monas, escorted amidst tight security, creating a ceremonial ambiance.

During the official reception at Merdeka Palace, President Macron was greeted by President Prabowo Subianto in a cordial manner. The two leaders proceeded to the ceremonial grounds, where the national anthems of both countries were played, accompanied by a 21-gun salute as a mark of respect. President Prabowo and President Macron inspected the honor guard under the clear blue sky of Jakarta, with Macron acknowledging the enthusiastic students in the palace courtyard waving miniature flags.

Noteworthy figures from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son Ragowo Hediprasetyo, were present at the ceremony. Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia also included visits to the Military Academy in Magelang and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, showcasing the cultural and educational exchange between Indonesia and France. Following the grand reception, the two leaders engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting, focusing on strengthening strategic partnerships and further cementing the ties between their respective countries.
