Gresik (beritajatim.com) – Muharam (27), a resident of Perum Prambon Asri, Boboh Village, Menganti District, Gresik, could only hang his head in despair after being caught by residents while caught stealing truck batteries in Kepatihan Village.
The theft case began when the victim Darma Aditya and Fiano Rahmat Dani parked their Isuzu Box truck with the license plate number L8062 UB on Kepatihan Gresik Highway. After parking their vehicle, the victim delivered PT Son Express delivery notes to their supervisor named Imam who lived in Kepatihan Village.
Shortly after, the GPS alarm connected to the victim’s or the truck driver’s cellphone went off. Subsequently, the victim rode a motorcycle to check the location where the truck was parked.
When the victim arrived at the parking location, they were surprised to see the suspect Muharom riding a Honda Scoopy motorcycle carrying 2 stolen batteries placed in front of the motorcycle.
Upon realizing this, the victim Darma Aditya, aided by residents, managed to thwart the suspect who attempted to flee using their motorcycle and reported it to Menganti Police Station.
Menganti Police Chief AKP Roni Ismullah confirmed the incident, stating that at the time the Criminal Investigation Unit of Menganti Police Station was patrolling the area. “The suspect was briefly roughed up by the crowd. However, our officers managed to prevent further harm while on patrol,” he said on Tuesday (22/10/2024).
The first officer of the Indonesian National Police added that the suspect, along with the evidence, was successfully apprehended. During questioning, the suspect admitted to his actions. “Based on his confession, the suspect has committed this crime at five locations in Menganti Gresik and in the Surabaya area,” he explained.
Some of the evidence used for investigation includes a leasing statement along with a photocopy of the Isuzu Box truck registration certificate L8062 UB. Two 12 Volt batteries, one 12 and 10 size wrench, and one Honda Scoopy motorcycle owned by the suspect. “The suspect’s modus operandi was to steal truck batteries by dismantling them using a 12 and 10 size wrench,” he concluded.
