Toyota bZ4X electric cars in the Indonesian market are being recalled for the second time in 2024. This time, the bZ4X is accompanied by four Lexus models in the recall campaign.
The bZ4X in the Indonesian market was previously subjected to a recall campaign in January 2024, for units produced from March 2022 to June 2023. The cause was identified as a potential issue with the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) Combination Meter System software.
In August, Toyota officially announced another recall for the bZ4X produced from December 2022 to August 2023. This time, the issue is related to the Front View Camera and Rear View Camera features.
Along with the bZ4X, Lexus ES, Lexus LS, Lexus NX, and Lexus RX models from the same production period are also affected by the recall. The potential problem lies in the same two features.
“As the official brand holder (APM) for Toyota and Lexus in Indonesia, we are implementing the global initiative from Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) to inform and invite owners of Toyota bZ4X and certain Lexus models from December 2022 to August 2023 to visit the nearest official Toyota or Lexus workshop,” said Vice President Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Henry Tanoto.
Official Toyota and Lexus workshops will conduct inspections on the Front View Camera and Rear View Camera. If there are issues found, they will replace the components with new ones without any additional charges.
The Front View Camera and Rear View Camera are used to capture and display images of the front and rear areas of the vehicle, making parking maneuvers easier and safer.
The potential issues with both features are due to suboptimal laser welding processes on the camera housing at the supplier for units assembled from December 2022 to August 2023. Leakage of water into the components can cause short circuits and disrupt the performance of the Front View Camera and Rear View Camera.
The inspection process is estimated to take around 50 minutes to 2 hours, while the component replacement, if necessary, may take 1.5 to 4 hours.
“In addition to official letters, TAM advises customers to contact any Toyota or Lexus dealer to verify if their vehicle is included in the recall,” concluded Marketing Director of TAM Anton Jimmi Suwandy. [Xan]
